Billiton Ekobeach Retreat

An Eco Retreat and a Journey to a closer Carbon Neutral existence.

Belitung Island

Belitung Island is surrounded by 470 smaller islands; the archipelago is at the confluence of the South China and Java Seas, complemented with pure white sands, UNESCO Geosite granite boulders, pristine clear waters, and striking scenery – somehow resembling Seychelles. Belitung Island has indeed been called the “Seychelles of Indonesia”.

The advantages of Belitung Island lie in its accessibility and its safe environment. Safety-wise, crime rates on the island are categorically one of the lowest in the country. Not to mention, radicalism isn’t a feature amongst the communities. Locals have been accustomed to tolerance in terms of ethnicity and religion as mosques, churches, and temples stand within close proximity.

Location

Located in the North West of Belitung Island on the best part of Belitung’s beach, the Beach Tent construction area were set to have minimum impact on local environments and natural habitat. Many trees and green areas are protected by minimizing vegetation clearing, excavation, and chemical use.

Reconnect with Nature

The resorts were designed, crafted, and built carefully from local surround wood and nature material like nipa palm, coconut leave and dolken logs. By using the local elements and respecting the existing environment, we have reduced carbon footprint in transporting materials and added more local value to the property without compromising guest comfort.

Sustainable Development

We embrace the usage of green building materials. We use recycling techniques for the roof and furniture in some of our units. Reused tensile membranes from an old project were used to crowning our initial rooms. Some of the furnishings were handcrafted from waste timber of nearby construction to make a valuable contribution by reducing wood consumption. We also admire driftwood as a natural wonder and it is such a perfect artsy addition to our dwellings. Healthy spring water was captured from the nearest sources. It might not be colourless, but it contains no chemical additives.

Local Wisdom

Local wisdom was implemented as many as possible to our hospitality to create unforgettable memory for our guest. Each tent is equipped with ensuite bathroom that featured central waste-energy-hot-water system. Coir or coconut fiber excess from the market are collected as an alternative to gas or electricity to heat the water. The catch-of-the-day menu in our authentic local dining experiences were harvested with traditional fishing method using Bubu, a traditional fish trap system. We also replace the disposable plastic straws with natural bamboo straws, which are durable, beautiful, and cut from nature.
